Due to ongoing issues with leaks and water ingress, Mount Stewart Junior School took the decision in 2014 to re-roof the entire campus, including 7 roofs of various construction, totalling 2500m². Alumasc and their registered contractor M&J Roofing were faced with the task of re-roofing the large roof areas in only eight weeks, to ensure that minimum disruption occurred to the school and its teachers and pupils. These requirements led to Derbigum Olivine being installed, with torch application of the membranes allowing M&J Roofing to install the new system quickly and efficiently. Derbigum Olivine was selected as it is an ecological roofing solution, with a naturally-sourced Olivine mineral layer. During rainfall, the Olivine membrane makes contact with CO² present in the atmosphere resulting in a chemical reaction which neutralises the CO², providing a positive impact on climate change.
